Our Commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
Local Action,
but Global Impact
Established in 2020 and backed by the women’s quota in Agriculture, the Zimbabwe Women Agribusiness Network (ZWAN) works relentlessly to promote women empowerment in Agribusiness as a direct pathway to achieving multiple Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including SDG 5 (Gender Equality), SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), and SDG 2 (Zero Hunger).
ZWAN is a nonprofit organization registered with the Zimbabwe Youth Council (ZYC) and is currently in the process of obtaining a trustee deed. Aligned with SDG 13 (Climate Action) and SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), ZWAN is affiliated with the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water, and Rural Development as part of an initiative to promote climate action and sustainable farming practices. It was founded by Ms. Phillipa Jaya, who serves as the founder and executive director, embedding sustainability into the organization’s DNA from day one.
ZWAN provides a professional ecosystem of networking, knowledge sharing, and mentorship that bridges the gap between the field and the global marketplace. Through this ecosystem, ZWAN advances SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) by facilitating access to both formal and informal training, as well as extension services. It organizes programs aimed at finding markets for agricultural produce, directly contributing to SDG 1 (No Poverty) and building long-term economic and environmental sustainability for Zimbabwean women in agribusiness
